Engineering Student Council Rep Johnathon Becker -Had to leave early, so gave his report first -ESC needs an Events Co-Chair: -looks good on a resume, great fun! -e-mail jmbecker@w6bhz if you're interested -National Engineer's Week Feb 19th week -BHZ needs to have a booth there -Northrop-Grumann Excellence in Teaching & Applied Research -Talk to Johnathon if you want to nominate an Engineering Prof. -APPLICATIONS DUE by the end of January! II. President's Report--Dave Oksner -Dave was sick from the meeting, so no report was given III. Vice-President's Report--Dean Wood -We want to have a HAM class next quarter -considering locations, times (2 hrs/wk, twice a week?), teachers, VE, etc. ****NEED HELP!!**** -Tentatively planned to start the first week of Spring Qtr. -LOT of people interested in taking class (tell a friend) -Want the class to be in a public location; need good parking, easy access -WE NEED VOLUNTEERS TO SPEAK ON A TOPIC OF THE TEST THAT THEY're FAMILIAR WITH (Tech No-Code class) -VE requirements: General Class or above; takes a week for paperwork ***If you can find it in your heart & schedule to volunteer your time, money, or expertise for this event, please contact CHRIS HOFFMAN: 756-2737 for the shack #. -We'll discuss the class further at the next club meeting -Ideas for locations: -Las Brisas Retirement Home -City Hall? -Camp San Luis? Shack Manager--Craig Gullickson -Thank KE6OJR, Kent, for cleaning up and earthquake-proofing the shack -We got a new microwave oven! -Remember: the elements affect the shack! When it is especially rainy or windy, WIPE YOUR FEET and keep your shack clean! -Should we get a sautering iron for the shack? -Variable Heat Welder -$109 price quote + tips (about $5 each) -BGT Len looking into getting some from Techtronix **If you know anyone who can donate, ASK!** VI. Repeater Manager--Paul Jensen (AT WORK) Rick N6NL: -cleared the repeater over break, had to reset it -Have been getting major interference at Admin; getting it fixed -Need 442.3 backup ASAP -New racks donated by Poly -KVEC radio hill -147.390 installed -Linked to Williams Hill, which is down -May have to regroup on WALA -Frequencies screwy -Admin is our main concern;Tass slow going VII. Coke Manager--Greg Russo, KE6SXY (Yeah, SeXY!!) -$670.65 since last meeting (at the last meeting, we had $511) -SHOULD WE INSTALL A DOLLAR BILL CHANGER?? -Foundation would charge $300 if anything went wrong -According to KK6DJ, we used to have one LONG ago -Coke said no more b/c they were getting vandalized all the time -According to KC6WOT, Coke said we cannot get a bill changer unless the machine was inside or in a cage (now it is considered a hallway) -BGT: we should set aside money specifically for machine repair; proposes that SXY look into the bill-changer issue a bit more VIII. Advisor's Report--Daniel J. Malone, Jr. -We need to clean ALL of our stuff out of Admin tonight -KVEC HILL -Metricom is putting a site in up there -We have to make sure their equipment is in an acceptable place (KCPR stole our rack!!!!!!!!!!!!) -Someone needs to check it out, b/c they will be on campus manana http://www.metricom.com/ to find out more about the company IX. OLD BUSINESS A. WALA Status -Williams Hill down indefinitely -Lompoc Link is useless -So. CA coordinator is talking about removing Lompoc and using us as the next WALA link north from Palos Verdes -PLEASE e-mail Tami with any advice you can about this situation X. New Business RICK & the Repeater Project! -Proposes a Cellwave PD201 antenna UHF Repeater for Admin -Approx. $353 -Craig Gullickson moves to allocate up to $400 for the purchase of a PD201 Cellwave VHF antenna for the Admin Repeater -Len (KE6BGT) seconds *MOTION PASSES* LEN GIBBS & Gifts -He has been working at Techtronix in Portland, OR -Company is donating a 65Mhz analog Oscilloscope!! -We want it available to everyone, but then everyone needs to be accountable to it -Worth $2,000-$4,000 on the market!! -We will be having a club demonstration to show how to use it RICK-- -Brad has been working on getting "Dash" (shack computer) checked out to us directly from Digital Corp. (YEAH BRAD!)
