Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club Meeting Minutes 05 March 1998 Meeting started: 7:58pm I. OFFICER REPORTS A. President - Josh KF6DMI -How many people want to help with Wildflower Century? It's April 25. Committments from: Tami, Paul, Gary, Josh, Russ, Speed(maybe), Mark, Dave Spencer, OMS will try. B. Vice President - Mark KD6JTS was late C. Treasurer - Tami KE6SYA -We got the following dontations: $300 from Brad N6BDE $25 from John Flowers Thanks to both of them! Also got the $500 check from ASI. D. Secretary - Dean N6DE -Lots of work done on shack since last meeting. We are now active on 6m and RTTY! The 6m antenna is now on the roof. Thanks to Speed and Rick for helping me with these projects. -I am graduating at the end of the winter quarter, so we need the following positions filled: Secretary, Open House Rep, and QSL Manager New Open House Rep: Dave KE6OMS Dave will attend the April 9 and April 16 Open House meetings, and will take care of any other related business. New QSL Manager: Speed KD6CVS Secretary: No one wanted to fill this position. The club officers will rotate in taking the meeting minutes and completing the work from this officer position. -International DX Contest is this weekend from Friday 4pm to Sunday 4pm. E. Shack Manager - Paul KE6MQQ -The bubble and Diamond dualband 2m/70cm vertical are now on the tower thanks to Speed. -Redecoration of patio area - Kent helped to move our tower pieces on top of the roof so this will never happen again. F. Repeater Manager - Dave KE6OMS / Rick N6NL -440 cut out. -Autodial 911 numbers still not working. Need to put another 9 in the dialing sequence for these codes on the repeater controller. -Reverse patch forwards to ? G. Vending Manager - Gary KQ6BX -No report. H. Council Reps - Gary and Mark -No report. I. Computer Manager - Josh KF6DMI -No installation requests on queue. -Any requests? E-mail them and they will be promptly ignored. :) J. ARES Rep - Kent KE6OJR -Previous ARES meeting was about RF safety. -Compiled new vim, GUI vim on dot. -RTTY: Dean and Kent have already made DX RTTY contacts at the shack with the Falklands and Chatham Islands. II. OLD BUSINESS A. Officer Positions -Secretary replacements covered under Dean's report. -Need a new ARES rep since Kent is also graduating. New ARES Rep: Dave Spencer KF6PKU -Quote of the quarter from Mark KD6JTS: "I am worthless in any position!" B. 50th Anniversary -T-shirts: Will sell them for $15. $17 for XXL. $2 extra if shipping is required. -Tami and Rick will work on the mailing. C. Wildflower -Rick has been going to Wildflower planning meetings, and will keep going to them with John KK6DJ. -Extras for this year's Wildflower: pair of cross band repeaters to at least allow communication between Start-Finish and front gate, and 450W paging TX with satellite downlink. -Rick and John plan to be at Lake San Antonio on the Wed or Thu before Wildflower. III. NEW BUSINESS A. New Purchases- Dean N6DE -We need a general purpose logging program for the special event station, as well as everyday logging for the shack. I have evaluated demos of several programs and it comes down to two programs: DX4WIN and LOGic. -LOGic is the best program, and will do everything we need and more. I suggest we buy this program. -Rick suggested we also buy a copy of CT. Could get the latest version at Dayton. **Motion** Allocate up to $225 to purchase LOGic and CT. *Motion passes* -Dean will take care of purchasing LOGic. Dean and Rick will talk about when to purchase CT. -We need a multimeter for the shack. The one we have is useless. Dean and Speed have had to bring their own multimeters to work on shack projects. -Fluke makes good meters, Rick mentioned some other possibilities. -Kent and others talked about purchasing antennas. Possibly a KLM log periodic, or a GAP vertical. -Discussion tabled until next meeting so that some specific products and prices can be presented. IV.
