Welcome to the W6BHZ Electronic Newsletter for October 11, 1994! ************************************************************************** The new year is underway, and the Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club is off to a great start. Our first meeting consisted of summer updates, which included reports on a recent shack remodel, as well as involvement in two local ARES/RACES activities. With the coming of the new year, we also had elections, and the following are the W6BHZ CPARC Club Officers for the 1994-95 school year: President: Kirk J. Smith, KD6RCT kjsmith@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu Vice-President: Dean Wood, KC6IZR dwood@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu Secretary: Trisha Ginsburg, KE6DLI tginsbur@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu Treasurer: Craig Gullickson, KC6CEX cgullick@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu Coke Manager: Mark Smith, KD6JTS msmith@volta.elee.calpoly.edu Repeater Manager: Ryan Matteson, KD6HPC rmatteso@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu Station Manager: Dave Evans, N6UEZ daevans@hertz.elee.calpoly.edu EEEC Representative: Ian Morcott, KD6HHI imorcott@oboe.aix.calpoly.edu *Note: EC Representative duties are handled by the Vice-President ************************************************************************** Help Wanted.... In addition to these elected positions, we have an opening for one appointed position. This position is of Assistant Coke Manager. As many of you know, the Coke machine is our main source of income. Without this income, our club would have difficulty meeting even operating expenses, let alone making new purchases. Filling the Coke machine is a time consuming, tedious task, and the Coke Manager needs an assistant. The position of Assistant Coke Manager will help alleviate the workload on the Coke Manager. S/he will have sets of keys to the Coke Machine, bins, shack and cash drawer, and will be responsible for helping to keep the machine filled, leave notes for the Coke Manager for Coke order needs, and to remove coins from the machine and assist in rolling them. Because this position is so important, it will be appointed by the Coke Manager. If the Coke Manager feels his appointee isn't carrying his/her share of the work, the Coke Manager can, after two verbal warnings, request that the assistant return his or her keys, and may then appoint a new assistant. This position is extremely important, and I'd like to encourage folks to apply for it. The only requirement is that you must be a current student of Cal Poly. For more information, send email to msmith@volta.elee.calpoly.edu. ************************************************************************** Donations.... My last mailing included a list of equipment that W6BHZ needs for its expansion projects. I failed to add 2m mobile radios and TNCs for our Internet to Packet Gateway project. We've purchased a Sun workstation on which we intend to run a Packet/Internet Gateway. We are in need of TNC's and simple radios for packet (two of each) in order to fully implement this project. If you can help, please email us or call us at (805) 756-2737. Alumni and parents should also note that when Cal Poly calls for those donations, you can specify the Amateur Radio Club as the recipiant of your donation. One recent graduate's mom made a donation, and her company matched it 2:1! **************************************************************************** Repeater Update.... The 145.190- (100Hz PL) repeater is now on-the-air running full-time WALA. We are excited to have this up and running, and look forward to installing it in its full-time location within the next few weeks. Thanks to all of the hams that have made this project possible. *** That's it for now. Thanks, and 73! -Kirk J. Smith, KD6RCT President, Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club
