Winter 2006 Amateur Radio Test

The Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club will be holding an Amateur Radio Exam session at Cal Poly, at 4pm on the 11th of Febuary. The test will be held in Building 8 East, Room 121. This is only a testing session; however, we will be in the room starting at 1pm for any last minute questions you might have about Amateur Radio, the test format, or anthing else.
- General Information about the test:
- This test is open to everybody, students and community members.
- Test starts at 4pm and will last approximately 2 hours. Amateur Radio operators will be in the room at 1pm to answer any questions you may have about the test, test format, or anything else.
- The test is located at Building 8 at Cal Poly; directions are at the bottom of this page.
- The test costs $14 for as many elements as you would like to take.
- You do not need to sign up; however, it would be nice if you could email or call (756-2737) us so we know how many people will be attending.
- Be sure to bring:
- $14, preferably exact change
- A picture ID (Drivers License or Polycard is fine)
- Another form of identification with your name and address (PG&E bill or check or credit card)
- Four-function or scientific calculator (non-programmable)
- 2 sharpened pencils and 1 working black pen
- Any CSCEs that you may have from previous tests

The recommended book to study for this test is Now You're Talking (ISBN: 0-87259-881-0)
published by the ARRL. It costs about $20. The Barnes and Noble downtown San Luis Obispo on Marsh Street has copies in the store. Or, you may buy it online thru Barnes and Noble or Amazon.
- Directions to Building 8:
- From San Luis Obispo, and cities along Highway 101. Follow green arrows above.
- Enter campus on Grand Ave and go to the end of the road. Take a right on Outer Perimeter Drive.
- Follow South Perimeter Drive up the hill, then down the hill. South Perimeter turns into North Perimeter Drive.
- Take a right immediatly after the Police Station, and park in the adjacent lot. Parking is free on weekends.
- The entrance to Building 8 is in the middle of the H-4 parking lot. The test will be held in Room 121.
- From North San Luis Obispo, Los Osos, Morro Bay. Follow red arrows above.
- Enter the Highland entrance to Cal Poly. Pass under the Train Tracks and keep going straight.
- Take a right on Via Carta, which is almost at the end of Highland Drive.
- Take the next left into the H-4 Parking lot. Parking is free on weekends.
- The entrance to Building 8 is in the middle of the H-4 parking lot. The test will be held in Room 121.
