On Wednesday May 20th, 2026, the Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club received their first-ever Cal Poly Learn By Doing Good Award, namely Significant Contribution by a Student Organization. It was given to us in recognition of our work supporting the local community and improving public safety infrastructure. Our work includes serving as San Luis Obispo Emergency Communications Center 16, organizing communications for local triathlons and bike races, assisting local repair cafes, and upgrading and expanding the Amateur Radio Emergency Data Network pursuant to our ARDC grant. We also conduct frequent Amateur Radio licensing exam sessions under the GLAARG VEC, and have licensed well over 2000 people throughout our existence. We are very grateful to our advisors, members, and local Amateur Radio clubs such as Paso Robles Amateur Radio Club and Estero Radio Club for allowing us to do what we do, and to the Center for Service in Action for the recognition.
