On September 26, 2026, CPARC provided emergency communications for the SLOBC Lighthouse Century, a cycling event based in Morro Bay with routes along Highway 1 and Highway 46.
CPARC students were stationed at Net Control, rest stops, and in Support and Gear (SAG) vehicles throughout the course. Over amateur radio, CPARC members established communication with Net Control to report injuries, mechanical issues, and locations to support cyclists needing assistance. If a cyclist needed help, CPARC members would report the situation and location to Net Control, who would then organize and communicate with the SAG teams to assist the cyclist as fast as possible.
The event gave CPARC members the opportunity to practice real-world radio communications while keeping cyclists safe. We would like to thank SLOBC for its continued support of CPARC, and we look forward to helping at future events!
