Fall 2021 EE Testing

Hello everyone and welcome to student testing for Fall 2021 hosted by the Cal Poly Amateur Radio Club (CPARC) and GLAARG! GLAARG, the Greater Los Angeles Amateur Radio Group, is a Volunteer Exam Coordinator (VEC), meaning an organization authorized by the Federal Communications Commission to give amateur radio exams. It was originally local to the Los Angeles area, but expanded internationally during the COVID pandemic and helped pioneer online ham testing.

Here, you will find options to test for your amateur radio Technician’s license, which all EE 151 students will submit for class credit. This Technician license will allow you introduction into the amazing world of amateur radio, allowing use of a large portion of the radio frequency spectrum, alongside endless academic and occupational opportunities.

In order to get this license, you must pass a 35 question test with a score of 26/35 or more. On October 23rd, 2021, CPARC will be hosting its annual Ham Cram, where we intend to equip you with everything you need to know in order to pass. That, alongside numerous other online resources (our favorite is HamStudy.org) as well as what you have learned in class, should leave you very capable of passing! See below for test session registration information.

There will be numerous online “remote” exam session options through us and other GLAARG remote testing teams. Below are links to register for one of three sessions hosted by CPARC. The first, on October 23rd, will be right after the Ham Cram, but you are welcome to attend regardless of whether or not you attend the cram. The other two are later in the quarter, allowing more time to study and become familiar with many of the concepts relevant to you. If these do not work, you may register for any other GLAARG remote session (or with any organization if you don’t mind paying any fees they may have). All GLAARG sessions will email you a Certificate of Successful Completion of Exam after you pass so you can submit it for lab.

It is your choice regarding what you wish to register for. However, you may only register for one session at a time. Closer to the day of your session, you will receive an email including the Zoom information alongside your personal arrival time for that day. When choosing a session, please ensure that you are available thought the time period for the session (such as between 12:00 and 5:00) so that you are able to make any arrival time you are assigned within the timeframe.

I know this may be a daunting task, but we get positive feedback each year from people glad that they had gotten their amateur radio license. Let us know if you have any questions! Feel free to email [email protected] with any club-related questions or [email protected] with any specific questions about CPARC testing and Ham Cram.
